Where do I come from?
Graeme from the “sunny ol’ UK” asks “I am 29 years old, my father was a sperm donor and I live in the UK. Is there any way I could find him?” Sadly this is a very problematic situation, as before 1991, there was no legislation concerning donors as it was a very new practice. Therefore little or no records will have been kept concerning your conception. If you were born after 1991, there may have been a large chance they kept the records, but would have then depended apon whether your genetic father had re-registered to become identifiable through the HFEA, information available here. For sperm donors now, information is stored and can be given to the child when they reach the age of 18, but is done on a case by case basis. Sadly for yourself, there is not much you can do apart from contact the clinic (if it still exists) where your genetic father donated his sperm. This is a long shot I am afraid, but it could give you what you need. For those who are really that determined, the government *could*, but are very unwilling to do anything which helps anyone these days, cross match your DNA, your mothers, and come up with positive matches for your father, if he’d ever been into a police station. This would take a long time, and could come up with hundreds of matches. Otherwise a private detective could be of assistance, but would be VERY expencive.
