Navion L-17

Jerry and Val ask “how many navion air planes did they build?”

1,272 were produced during their time commisioned as a millitary vehicle between the years 1946 and 1951, they were decommisioned and mostly used as civillian light aircraft from 1962.

A break down of what was actually produced is as follows:

The US airforce produced 1,109 L-17’s, of which 83 were L-17A’s which were used as recon, light cargo and for training.

The Ryan Aeronautical Company took the design and produced a slight modification designated L-17B, of which 158 were initially ordered in 1948, with 5 more being send out in 1949, being put out of production in that year. 35 were further upgraded to the L-17C in 1951. The all-service renaming redesignated them as U-18’s in 1962, and being decommisioned shortly thereafter.
