CMT

Gene writes to ask: What profession is a CMT?

There appears to be several answers to that question.

Chartered Market Technicians are referred to as CMTs. The Market Technicians Association oversees curriculum and testing for this certification.

People with this certification work in the field of finance as securities dealers and brokers, market analysts, fund managers, financial planners, advisers and other related careers. Thus CMT is not a specific profession, but a designation that certifies a persons expertise in technical analysis of the financial markets.

It appears that some professional massage therapists also use the designation, CMT for Certified Massage Therapist. There are various professional associations, educational degrees, and state designated licensing requirements for massage therapists and a number of them offer certification of one sort or another. If you are trying to locate a certified therapist, you might start at The National Certification Board for Theraputic Massage and Bodywork.

Some states in the U.S. require this certificate, others do not, others have their own state certification process. You can find out more about that here - Massage Therapy Law and Licensure.

Certified Medical Technician, and Certified Medical Transcriptionists are also both known as CMTs. Medical Technologists work in laboratories at hospitals, doctors offices and so on performing diagnostic analytic tests on human body fluids.

Certified Medical Transcriptionists create written reports from physicians notes, usually dictation tapes.

In the U.S. Air Force there is a position called the Charge Medical Technician. I'm not sure I even want to know what their job description is.

Hope that helps!
