The quality of this book really depends on what your interest is. If you are an artist, web designer, or designer of another sort, in search of many excellent illustrations for inspiration, or even permission free use this is an excellent resource. Most of the illustrations are from extremely old sources, books, carvings, and etchings from prehistoric to books of the 1500s. Thus, the dragons for instance, are of an older style than the slick illustrations and movie look of the 21st century. I like both styles, with a slight preference, or at least a certain amount of respect, for the older sources.

If you are into serious research on the mythology, however, the pickings are a bit sparse, with little more than a reference and a couple lines of vague explanation for each section. Some of those references are intriguing though, and can point to subjects you might want to research more deeply – or at least they did for me!

A fun book to leaf through on a rainy day.
