Hello from the road!We took the long way out of Oklahoma. Hubby and I both have some bad memories of Texas, so we noodled slowly down the panhandle of Oklahoma to the New Mexico border, enjoying the sights and the small towns. As we drove through one "wide place in the road" late in the evening, a fawn greyhound moseyed across the road, clearly the master of his own fate. What a great life for a greyhound - far enough out in the country to run free. A week or so later in Roswell, New Mexico I noticed two men walking an Afghan and a Borzoi behind the motel we were at, and had to stop to say hello. It turns out we happened to be in Roswell the same weekend as the dog show. We had a nice chat, and I enjoyed getting to visit with and pet both dogs. The Borzoi, for all her size, was a younger dog, so her owner took the opportunity to "stack her" and I "played judge" for him, running my hands over her, checking her teeth and so on. Ah, sweet reminders of when I was showing Jessie and often let any interested stranger do the same. And just last week we did a couple of days Day Labor. One of the jobs we were sent on was "yard work" (this is a laugh all it's own - as we ended up digging a huge hole) on a beautiful and isolated bit of property outside of Tucson. The owners of the property had two Paint Horses, a mule, and two Whippets. The Whippets took it upon themselves to supervise our work. Both were beautiful pale fawn and white dogs, sweet and friendly. The female wanted me to come play. The male made sure we were nice people who wouldn't narc on him, then slipped into the horses stall to roll in a nice, fresh pile of dung. LOL! Wait 'till his humans find out what he's been up to. Hounds. Gotta love 'em. If you are interested in hearing all about our travels, you can follow along at my Blog or you might prefer the more coherent and detailed (but a bit behind) articles I write for Thrifty World Travel. It just occurred to me to wonder if we were passing up any greyhound tracks or farms or other hound folks we should be visiting. Feel free to email me if you'd like - we are currently in Why, AZ. Next week it is on to Yuma, then Southern California. Mind you, I don't always have Internet. For the most part we are tent camping in the parks. And loving it. Blessedbe Summer
