Update on the Bandwidth theft

The admin at Greytalk has disabled the images and written to let me know they contacted the user and forwarded my message. Thank you very much to them for their timely actions. To be frank, I didn't even expect a response, since that's the attitude I've encountered before in similar situations.

The user did email me an apology - saying like all thieves do that "they didn't know what they were doing". Since it just isn't that easy to read through a page of code and pick out the coding for one image among 20 or so, I find that a little hard to believe, but at least they did write and apologize.

And I figured out how it happened. You see, I have a little file I put in all my image folders that blocks hotlinking from my side. However, for some reason some peoples computer security settings take offense and block all my images - all they see is boxes with red "x"s. What they need to do is change their computers security settings, but I don't know how to tell them to do that - I don't have the problem.

I seem to recall that someone was having a lot of trouble seeing my images and wrote to complain. It was a rescue association of some sort, and so I actually removed the file so that they could use the site, meaning to put it back up when they were done. I got busy - and forgot.

From now on, folks are just going to have to figure out how to set their computer security settings, or go to another computer. I cannot afford this.

Blessedbe
