These books are within reach of me right here at the computer, and for good reason. I barely go a day without needing one of them for a reference for something.
This is hardly a complete list of my Pagan references (and I will add more as I have time), and of course, there are many other wonderful books that I have not yet had the pleasure of reading.
They are no longer linked to a particular bookstore as there are many excellent book stores available, both online and, hopefully, in your hometown. Even those that are out of print can often been found very inexpensively either on eBay, Half.com, or through Amazon.com's used books.
I hope, at least, this booklist gives you a place to start, and also serves as a list of the references I use when writing my articles for this site, Salamanders Cove, and my other websites.

God Herself
Geraldine Thorsten
astrology
Actually, if you can find one of the older copies, from the 1981 printing, this is so much more than another astrology book. The first printings included a ton of information on the history of the symbolism of each sign and of astrology that was removed in later printings. This one book, more than any other, convinced me of the practical applications of astrology.
Holy Blood, Holy Grail
Michael Baigent, Richard Leigh, and Henry Lincoln
Investigative Journalism
Not for the faint of heart, this is not an easy read. However, it is well worth plowing through. I won't give away the surprise conclusion.
Sacred Space
Denise Linn
Pagan reference
I use this book so much. There is a ton of practical information here to improve the atmosphere around you, in your home, your office, anywhere. Both Feng Shui and cleansing and blessing rituals, the use of colors, & more
Past Lives, Future Healing
Sylvia Browne
self help
This is a really interesting look at how past lives may affect our current health.
Wild Witches Don't Get The Blues
Ffiona Morgan
astrology, rituals & healing
If you are male, ignore this, because its pretty anti-male. However, it glows with lyrical writing and healing for any woman who has been victimized by men, and offers many excellent practical rituals.
The Practice of Witchcraft
Robin Skelton
Pagan Reference & spell book
A great source for holiday rituals and spells
Voices of Our Ancestors
Dhyani Ywahoo
Native American reference
If you are interested in the religion and history of the Cherokee, you can't do better than this.
Selu; seeking the Corn-Mothers Wisdom
Marilou Awiakta
Native American reference
I love this book, it is beautifully written, weaving the story of Selu, the Corn Mother, into modern life and nuclear physics.
Linda Goodmans Sun Signs
Linda Goodman
astrology
This is a great reference for learning about each of the sun signs and how they affect you and the people around you.
Linda Goodmans Star Signs
Linda Goodman
astrology
This is so much more than an astrology book. Ms. Goodman touches on nutrition, health, career, reincarnation, places of power, effects of color...the list goes on
The Truth About Witchcraft Today
Scott Cunningham
Wicca/Paganism
This little book is a wonderful, reasonable, sensible introduction to Paganism. I am really sorry it is out of print. I buy every copy I find because I give them to people who ask me what Paganism is.
Spiral Dance
Starhawk
pagan reference
This book gives you the foundations of being a Pagan, both practical ritual, blessings, and spells, and the necessary history the religion is based upon.
When Santa Was A Shaman
Tony van Renterghem
pagan reference
This is one of my favorite references, which I reread almost every year, around Winter Solstice. It traces the story of the pagan male god from cave paintings to Santa Claus with honest and clarity.
When God Was a Woman
Merlin Stone
pagan reference
I consider this book required reading for anyone interested in Paganism, or in the ancient (and ongoing) conflict between Christianity and Paganism.
Thorsons Principles of Paganism
Vivianne Crowley
pagan reference
This little bitty book is a treasure chest of information on the variations of Paganism and Pagan Holidays.
Behaving as if the God in all life Mattered
Machaelle Small Wright
philosophy
Not only is this an excellent reference, it is an inspiring story of overcoming a terrible childhood and growing into a very special human being who has much to teach us all.
Life was Never Meant to be a Struggle
Stuart Wilde
self help
I buy this little book three or four copies at a time, because I am forever giving them to someone. If you have never read self help, or you think you hate that sappy self help junk, you need this book. Stuart Wilde is down to earth, often hilariously funny, and to the point.
Simply Wilde
Stuart Wilde
self help
This is a nifty book just to have around. Questions and short answers from Stuart Wilde.
Heal Your Body
Louise L. Hay
self help
This little book holds a wealth of information. If you believe your mental and spiritual health affects your body - this is your reference. If you don't, you should give this a read and see if it doesn't change your mind.
Miracles
Stuart Wilde
self-help
The starting point for learning to take control of your life. First of the Taos Quintet.
The Force
Stuart Wilde
self help
An excellent, straightforward explanation of the forces that rule our lives.
Affirmations
Stuart Wilde
self help
This book is my personal favorite of the Taos Quintet and I reread it often, as well as using it to find affirmations.
The Quickening
Stuart Wilde
self help
Third book of the Taos Quintet by Stuart Wilde, this is a small book, a quick read, but carries a lot of weight.
The Trick to Money is Having Some
Stuart Wilde
self help
Sure the title makes you laugh, but every time I read this book I put it down bursting with energy, ideas, and inspiration.
Infinite Self
Stuart Wilde
self help
This is the logical continuation of Mr. Wildes' writings if you have read his Taos Quintet; Miracles, The Quickening, The Force, and Affirmations, and The Trick to Money is Having Some
Whispering Winds of Change
Stuart Wilde
self help
Mr. Wilde's look at the future of this reality.
Playful Magic
Janina Renee
spell book
The name of this book really does say it all. A light but profound look at bringing magic into your daily life.
Tarot Spells
Janina Reneee
spell book
A book of useful spells, well organized, and generic enough to be used with any path of Paganism.
I strongly recommend these authors:
Stuart Wilde, Scott Cunningham, Janina Renee, Starhawk, Linda Goodman, Sylvia Browne, any of the Edgar Cayce books, Barbara Walker, Janine Renee, Shirley Maclaine.
Another GREAT resource for books and booklovers:
